VA Food Drive
Members of the Dental Clinic at VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System provided donated food items to John Paradis, VA public affairs officer, as part of the "Feds Feed Feed Families" campaign. The donations were part of a nationwide effort to gather 2 million pounds of food for families in need this summer.
The Northampton campus of VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System collected nearly 500 pounds of food items as part of the 2011 Feds Feed Families Food Drive.
The effort was part of a government-wide initiative in partnership with the federal Office of Personnel Management, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Agriculture.
With food banks across the nation and throughout the New England region facing severe shortages of non-perishable items, this year’s collection was particularly important. Many Veterans in need and their families, in particular, have found it increasingly more difficult to obtain food from area food pantries.
This year, VA CWM offices in Northampton collected cans of food and other food items to specifically support Veterans and their families here in the greater Northampton area by donating to the Soldier On food pantry.
Employees who donated items were from the following organizations: Primary Care, the Dental Clinic, Human Resources, the Director’s Office, Medical Records/Release of Information, Geriatric Extended Care, Contracting, Pharmacy, Nutrition and Food Services, Information Technology, Occupational Therapy, Medical Administration, Payroll, and the Business Office.
