Women in Science and Technology
The theme for the 2013 Women’s History Month celebration is "Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics."
NORTHAMPTON, Mass., March 13, 2013 -- VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System will observe Women's History Month with a tribute on Tuesday, March 26 on the Northampton medical center campus.
The 2013 National Women’s History Month theme is “Women Inspiring Innovation through Imagination.” VA facilities across the nation this month are recognizing women’s outstanding contributions to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The celebration begins 11 a.m. and ends 1 p.m. in The Learning Center.
Speakers will include Dr. Rebecca Spencer, assistant professor of psychology at University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and Dr. Sheila Jaswal, assistant professor of chemistry at UMass.
Both will talk about recent research in their respective areas.
Dr. Spencer will talk about the latest in sleep research, including her recent findings that have been detailed in national media including the New York Times.
Dr. Jaswal will talk about interdisciplinary biochemical, biophysical, and computational methods. Light refreshments will be served and a video highlighting women Veterans will be shown.
